For the Outdoors-man, there is fishing at the many lakes, or hunting antelope and mule deer in the nearby Sonoma Mountain Range. Excellent mountain biking awaits on the 36 Mile long, Winnemucca Trail System. Located just ten miles outside the city, the largest sand dunes in Nevada provide fantastic riding opportunities for off road vehicles and camping.
For the History Buff, there are several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including The Winnemucca state Bank and Trust Company Building, and the W.C. Record House. There are many nearby Mining Ghost Towns to explore as well as the oldest petroglyphs in North America located at the Winnemucca Lake petroglyph site.
